In September, tech giant Microsoft signed a power deal to restart a nuclear power plant in the US state of Pennsylvania to help the company power its data centres. The move could well mark the beginning of a trend as more and more data centres are built, creating huge additional needs for power.
But while nuclear power stations may make for a more eye-catching headline, at the other end of the scale, virtual power plants could also prove to be an important player in providing capacity for the growing number of data centres that are being built in the US.
